My introduction to photography was through my dad. He had a Polaroid camera and often took pictures of our family for special occasions, or just candids of me and my sisters. At a young age I was intrigued by the images he took.  He seemed to have a way with highlighting the personalities of those he was photographing. I began to understand that photography was a means to tell stories and explore the world around me.

A successful photograph begins with uncanny observation skills, along with an adept fly- on-the-wall like presence. I typically use this approach in order to “see” what’s relevant to composing an interesting picture. Whether it is a concert, a wedding, a street scene, or nature,  I try to stay clear of what’s before me.  I prefer to work intuitively, to watch the narrative unfold spontaneously in order to capture the truth of the moment. It’s important that my work express a sense of emotion and intimacy.

As an avid lover of music, I feel that music and photography are deeply connected. Both are shaped by harmony, rhythm, balance, and a sense of place. I love working with musicians. They provide insight into not only their artistry, but also what it means to truly love and have passion for what they do. Musicians communicate with their instruments what I attempt to convey with my camera.  It is the language of the spirit.
