"i live in music" poem by ntozake shange...paintings by romare bearden....is one of my favorite books(thank you Kris). There is nothing more exciting than hearing, feeling or seeing the drummer provide the beat to the music.
"The Art of Cool Festival is hands down one of the most amazing festivals I have been able to witness. For the past three years, I have made my way to beautiful downtown Durham, North Carolina to do what I love....photograph live music.
The Art of Cool Festival was founded by jazz trumpeter and educator, Albert Strong IV, and Cicely Mitchell, Dr.PH, of Strong Music Productions. Set in downtown Durham, the festival venues are within walking distance of one another, allowing one to easily access the performances. Coined the "Cochella" of jazz music, each year, Al and Cicely continue to amaze jazz lovers by pulling together one of the most innovative, forward moving, musical lineups. This years' lineup was no exception....performances included, Terrance Blanchard, Nicholas Payton, Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Anderson Paak, Kendrick Scott, Otis Brown III, Marcus Strickland, Brandee Younger, The Internet, NCCU Big Band featuring Charanee Wade, Derrick Hodge, PJ Morton, Moonchild, Chantae Caan, and Taylor McFerrin, just to name a few.
Here is my visual interpretation of what took place at this year's Art of Cool Festival. Enjoy!"
